Which is why Reece Oxford would benefit from a good loan next season.

Exactly.

Its 'shit or get of the pot' time for a young player.

To leave your family and friends, get away from external influences that may distract you and focus entirely on the sport.

Oh so what you're saying is not every single loan benefits every single party involved?

Well fuck me, Hermit son. You might well be onto something there.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
Clearly there are benefits. The question is do they outweigh the negatives and do they outweigh the negatives for every player in every situation. I think there are probably some situations where it benefits the player, and some where it doesn't.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
As well as having to grow up looking after himself away from home he is in a position now where he is dealing with responsibility & pressure in meaningful matches.
He is player of the year and they are in the playoffs at the moment. People at Bradford will be relying on him to help them get promoted which is obviously a big deal.
Dealing with that sort of responsibility will be something that tests him. Which is why he is there.

Spot on. I recall Rio saying many years ago that the reason why he found the transition to first team football easy was because he felt he matured as a person when he went out on loan, he even said in an article last year that young players these days find it harder to make it as a first team players because everything is given to them on a plate and they don't have to fend for themselves or grow up. Rio still goes back and has dinner with his old landlady a couple of times a year as he credits her with making him into a man.....fnarr fnarr....

That doesn't sound much like Alex V to me.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
It isn't just about the football aspect of it though. It's also about maturing as a person and growing up. How can a young player cope in a totally different environment away from his family and friends and totally out of their comfort zone.

The loan process is pretty good and regular. Arguing against it is surely just doing it for he sake of it.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
I can see what Alex is saying here. I think there's probably pros and cons to the loan system. I think there's something to be said for regular match practice albeit at a lower level. On the other hand, you would expect the coaching to be a fair bit inferior to the levels found at a premier league club. If it isn't, why are we paying millions every year to a coaching team?

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
I think Alex raises some sound points but I disagree with the "intent" aspect. I think we clearly want Burke to be a world class player and that we believe this loan is more likely to develop him than not. Why else would we do it. "Not wanting to deal with him" - whatever that means - is nonsense. That's said, whether or not a loan to a lower league side is actually the best way to develop a player is certainly open to debate.

Tim Breacker is a scout for Bradford. I met him at a game a few weeks ago and had a chat. He rates Burke and Cullen very highly.

He hadn't had an invite from the club to the last game at Upton Park when I spoke to him so you might want to disguise yourself as him and take his seat.

Fuck Bilic, th know nothing cunt, Alex V knows what's best for him.

Oh, and Ireland is a shithole where no one has a job, unless they're serving everyone else from behind the ramp.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
Bilic made our policy on him and others pretty clear in the press conference today.

Reece Burke won the Bradford City Player of the Year – is he someone you’ll look at for next season to play a part with the first team?

“I like Reece. He already played some friendlies and in Europe for us. He’s a very clever player. It was and still is part of the plan for a few to go on loan, minimum one year, maybe two, for them to improve, and them to come back with a clear situation. To say, you will play a part for West Ham and be an important player for the squad. After that, we will decide if he’s going to do another year, and that has to be at least the Championship, or he’s going to stay with us. He will stay with us only if he has a good chance to play.”

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
Buzz - Real weak unfounded arguement that is. If he had stayed with us this season with all the injuries we've had at centre back he would have no doubt got some game time, then he could have had that experience at the top level, and looking at Reid since he's come back I'd say that Burke could have held his place down.

Private Dancer - Sorry, cannot agree, saying at WHU in the hope of getting game time is not the same as having the opportunity of being at a professional club at League 1 and being a regular first team starter and all the responsibility that come with it. He will have developed enormously from his season up at Bradford.

Let's just say I have some insight into how this will have helped him.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
If he goes out on loan again, I' prefer it to be to a newly promoted top flight club or a top flight club abroad.

He's played 5 Premier League games and didn't really look out of place, he's now had a full year at a lower level, don't see any value at all in playing at a lower level again.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
So pleased for the lad. Clearly he has embraced his time there. I think these loan deals work well. Much better than U21's. Burke will definitely come back a better player.

Sven Roeder 8:13 Wed Apr 27
Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
The loan is PART of his development.
Part of that is regular competitive football (think he has played about 35 games) , part is living away from home & maturing & part is taking some responsibility.
I'm not in favour of loan after loan and I'd hope we would get him back in the summer for a full preseason and assess him to see whether he is ready for the squad next season.
Centre back is slightly different in like keepers its a position where you mature lately. You might see 19 yo midfielders & strikers but not so much in those positions in the Premiership.
I suspect we may decide that a Championship loan is best
Alternatively Oxford goes on loan, Henry goes out & we give Burke a combination of bench roles and being first choice for the u21's.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
All this has to have done his confidence a world of good and since even Alex V can't say definitively that it has in a way harmed him, I think the matter is pretty much settled.

I don't know whether to take that post seriously or not, if serious you genuinely don't understand life let alone football.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
I'm with Buzz.... the pros of the loan must far outweigh the cons.

As well as the obvious of regular first team football in a promotion chasing team, just imagine the boost to his confidence of being voted the player of the season.

By all accounts we have monitored his progress on a weekly basis and been very involved.

Bradford and their fans REALLY rate him and think he is a future England international... can't see how this can of harmed him in any way.
